At first glance, a 'novice' cat person might find a Cornish Rex just a bit too alien-like for them...take your time, their grace and constant affection should soon work their charms on you. Their structure or 'type', as we cat people use, is that of a cat built for speed and endurance and not for lap sitting, right in the prior, wrong in the latter...these cats are made of a strange combination of wavy down, with a touch of Velcro, they are ALWAYS where you are. They come in every color imaginable and some...still unimaginable, including colorpoints, lavender, chocolate and all the basic colors...and with white.
Don't let the term 'Rex' fool you. They are small to medium sized cats with the males being proportionately larger. The term 'rex' is a shortening of the genetic lingo, astrex, meaning the absence of GUARD hairs, those are the coarse topcoat hairs that insulate, so these kitties get chilly quite easily. The coat is crimped. As they mature, it becomes incredibly soft and velvety to the touch, and Marcel waved, from the top of their heads to the sides of their legs and to the tip of their long and slender tail. They even have crinkling whiskers! The little bit of shedding or molting they do have usually goes unnoticed with regular hand stroking.
Our Silly Dog Dylan who thinks he is a cat. Wow...look at those Cornish Rex ears !!!
